This morning, the New York Islanders High School Hockey League is providing a policy pronouncement to its Member Clubs in advance of a Board Meeting on July 9th at 8pm to assist them in making decisions on how to “Return To Play” in a safe and approved manner.
All the policy and guidance provided herein is based on consultation or pronouncements from the League’s certifying authorities starting with the Government of New York State, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), and USA Hockey (New York State Amateur Hockey Association - NYSAHA), with further guidance provided by New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) and National Federation of High School Sports’ (NFHS). The Board of Governors is monitoring these authorities for changes in policy that will allow for changes in our policy of guidance to our Member Clubs.
Based on the policies and guidance described above, at this time the NYIHSHL is not sanctioning ANY activity, whether on-ice or off-ice. All Clubs, Teams, Coaches, Parents and Players are to be guided accordingly to know that any hockey-related activity is not to be considered an activity of a Member Club of the New York Islanders High School Hockey League.
The League intends to provide future guidance as to how Clubs may resume sanctioned activity as additional information and policy becomes available from the League’s certifying authorities and will provide announcements through Member Board meetings or the League’s Website.
